May is here, this will be our last meeting until September.  Our star parties will continue throughout the summer along with outreach activities.

This year we're doing the same as before with a picnic/potluck inside, we're held this meeting outside in past years only to have to deal with high temperatures.

Weather permitting; when you arrive make your way to our solar telescope to observe the Sun before it sets.

Speaker 1: Kevin Schindler on "What is happening at Lowell Observatory"

Program Title:

Lowell Observatory New Kemper Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center

Program Description: 

This November, Lowell Observatory is opening its visitor center of the future, the dazzling Kemper Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center. This three-story, 40,000-square-foot facility features the Universe Theater with an LED screen measuring 25-feet high by 110-feet wide, a rooftop planetarium that incorporates the famous dark skies of Flagstaff, interactive exhibit hall for guests of all ages, and much more.

Speaker Description:

Kevin Schindler is the historian and public information officer at Lowell Observatory - where he has worked for 29 years - and an active member of the Flagstaff history and science communities. He has authored eight books and contributes a bi-weekly astronomy column, “View from Mars Hill”, for the Arizona Daily Sun newspaper. In May 2023, he served as Astronomer in Residence at the Grand Canyon.

Fun fact: Kevin has both a fossil crab and asteroid named after him.
